Riders have been converting their own motorcycles into trikes for years by using conversion kits specifically made for their model. Now, Harley-Davidson has a 2009 Tri-Glide Ultra Classic for sale for around $30,000. The trike becomes more expensive if the optional electric reverse transmission is purchased.
This model is designed for comfortable three wheel touring and based on the Electra Glide Ultra Classic model. It offers a fuel injected Twin Cam 103 V-Twin engine with a six gallon gas tank and six speed transmission. This new line will be available in three colors: Vivid Black, Dark Blue Pearl, and Red Hot Sunglo. The traditional OEM paint and process is used on this line, just like the other Harley-Davidson lines of motorcycles. This model will be manufactured by Lehman Trikes of USA using Electra Glide parts.
It has been designed by Harley-Davidson in an effort to give the baby boomer generation something that they have been asking for and doing themselves. A trike offers stability and confidence for many riders whether they are novice or need the extra security of a third wheel to distribute the heavy weight of a large bike. This model is created for the rider who enjoys touring in comfort with the reliability of a Harley-Davidson engine and design. Also, more women riders are on the road and have reported trouble with the weight of the larger motorcycles. Harley-Davidson is marketing the Tri-Glide as their answer to their loyal riders who would like greater stability on the road.
