The Harley-Davidson name is over 100 years old, and has survived from the earlier years of the 20th century all the way up into the 21st century. Harley-Davidson is not planning on slowing down; the famous bikes have been a part of two World Wars and have supplied some American police forces.
It is no surprise that Harley-Davidson has thrived this long. They have always been a quality brand. With a broad selection of bikes and accessories, Harley-Davidson is now planning to release a new creation in their 2009 lineup, the Trike. This three wheeled bike will allow the rider the stability and handling that they may not feel with a two wheeled bike. The Trike is expected to appeal especially to female riders who may have trouble with large two wheeled bikes.
The Trike isn't the only three wheeled attempt that Harley-Davidson has made. During the Great Depression in the 1930s, Harley-Davidson designed and built a three wheeled delivery vehicle called the Servi-Car, which stayed in production until 1973. The Servi-Car was designed to be a used as a car delivery and retrieval vehicle, but was also popular with small businesses and mobile vendors who were in need of a utility vehicle. Some police forces used the Servi-Car up into the 1990s. Just like in the Great Depression, our economy today is suffering. Hopefully, these new Trikes will be able to not only bring some stability to Harley's loyal riders, but also bring some much needed stability to the economy as well.
