Harley Davidson Trikes

Harley Davidson announced that it has added a new line to its bikes and it is “trikes.” These trikes are designed by Harley Davidson and will be made by Lehman. They are being built now, but they will not actually begin shipping until August.

The trikes will be made from the same parts that are used in making the Electra Glide motorcycles. The trikes will mainly be touring motorcycles. While the front wheel will be small, the two back wheels will be the same size as those that go on a small car.

Harley decided to add trikes to its line up due to studies that have shown that more people would ride if they felt comfortable. The main reason for the discomfort was from the fear of not being able to manage the bike, resulting in it falling over. The concept of the trike is to negate this fear and broaden the audience of motorcycle riders.

One of the groups of riders that this line was designed for was women. A lot of women would like to ride, but they cannot handle the two wheel bikes or they are afraid of the bike falling. The trikes will be much more manageable for women.

As the baby boomers get older they cannot handle the two wheelers as well as they have been, so the trikes will still allow them to ride. They will feel more comfortable with three wheels under them. The trikes are designed to not fall over like the two wheelers.

While Harley is adding the trikes to their 2009 line up, they are also taking away the 883 Sportster, Night Ride and Wide Glide.
